1. I'm still waiting on a couple of students for t-shirt money.
2. I have DIBELS training on Wednesday. Mrs. Stallings will be here.
3. Book reports are do the end of the month, starting on September 25.
4. Reading minutes are recorded in the planner and counted on Friday. 20 minutes four nights a week is expected and anything above that is extra credit.
Aug 28,2017 Happy second week of school! 1. I will not be here on Friday. Camping and my family are calling my name. 2. Homework will be sent home today and due on Friday. 3. We are ordering class t shirts. I am excited to order these and we can use them on field trips and on Fridays. Cost is $8 and needs to be turned into the office. 4. We are working on rounding....please help at home. This is a work in progress.
Thanks for everything, Naomi Foreman
August 14, 2017 Hi All, I am Naomi Foreman and I will be teaching your child this year. I grew up in LasCruces, NM and graduated from NMSU. I taught in LasCruces for nine years. After moving to Utah in 2002, I decided to take the volunteer position of Mom and raise my two kids. I spent eight years in JSD substituting and three years ago joined the ELA staff.
Homework is uniform for all of third grade. On Mondays we will send a pack home with the following. 1. Spelling- The students will have their weekly words written in their planner, glued to a piece of paper, and they are also found on my website. Lists are based on prior spelling skills. Students are expected to complete four spelling assignments for the week. They may chose from the assignment list. 2. Math- The students will bring home four pages of homework. Each concept will have already been gone through in class. If for some reason they don’t have Math that day the assignment will be shortened. I will let you know if that happens. 3. Language Arts- The students will bring home an “info” sheet on the weekly story. This will include concepts we are studying and vocabulary words. 4. Reading- The students are expected to read twenty minutes a day. Please sign this on their planners nightly. I do count nightly reading as part of their reading grade. Back to school night is Thursday, August 17; 5:30-7:30. You can bring supplies that evening. Volunteers- At this moment, one Monday AM helper, two Friday AM helpers. I will also need book club parents from 12:45-1:20 Monday- Friday. Reading parent will not start until I have the students "trained" on book clubs.
The students will be making up classroom rules/expectations in class with me on Monday. Tuesday we will come up with a classroom goal. If a student chooses to not follow expectations, consequences will follow. We will have a magnet system. A student’s magnet may be moved up or down throughout the day. Watch your child’s planner for colors. Green, blue or purple mean they had a great day. Yellow and red mean some expectations weren’t followed. Ask your child what happened and how it can be corrected. If I notice a trend, I will reach out. I would rather fix behaviors before they turn into problems. I will send a weekly email on Fridays. If for whatever reason you don't see one on Friday, watch for it on Monday. I will send your student an email tomorrow about a special assignment due on the first day of school. (I promise, it’s pain free)
I am scheduling reading testing times on Thursday and Friday this week. The sooner I get done with everyone, the sooner we get to start book clubs. Here is the link for the google doc sign up.
